The Halifax Metro Area, the capital of Nova Scotia is the central hub of activity in this coastal province. Be prepared to hear the deafening sound of the noon-day gun during midday – a tradition since the late 1800s.
Along the harbour Pier 21, Canada’s Immigration Museum features ongoing exhibitions, events and interesting artifacts displaying Nova Scotia’s multicultural heritage. Pier 21 was once home to a million refugees, and now holds over 200 events per year. Further down, at Cable Wharf, you’ll find a host of fun outdoor water activities ranging from harbour tours to deep-sea fishing excursions. Take a ferry to McNab’s Island, once an isolated detention center, to discover the historic ruins and wooded trails.

The rich history of Halifax comes alive at the picturesque Historic Properties, known as Halifax’s entertainment epicenter. Go for a night out on the town and head to Barracuda, or catch a hockey game or live concert at the Halifax Metro Arena. Test your fortune at the Harbour Side Casino or walk to the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, displaying a remarkable collection of more than 10,000 pieces of contemporary artwork.
