Eastern Shore in Nova Scotia
The Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia borders the Atlantic ocean, stretching from Halifax Harbour to the Strait of Canso. Tor Bay Provincial Park, south of Larry River, is another picturesque spot perfect for picnics and taking it easy. Surfing is especially becoming more popular along the Eastern Shore. Lawrencetown and Martinique beaches are great spots to catch waves—you could even try boogie boarding if the surf board’s a little much for you. Hiking tours are available, or travel at your own place. Hike the Port Bickerton Lighthouse Trail or Nova Scotia’s part of the Trans Canada Trail. The Crowbar Lake hiking trails are also a great opportunity to stretch your legs and watch for wildlife.
If golf is your game, take a swing at the 9-hole Osprey Shores Golf Resort or the 18-hole, par 70 River Oaks Golf Club. The rolling, tree lined fairways and scenic views make for a great day of golf. There are many festivals and events that take place throughout the summer on the Eastern Shore. From the Scotia Festival of Music, an annual chamber music event to theDartmouth Multicultural Festival, with more than 500 performers—participating in one of the largest celebrations in Canada, there are festivals of all sizes and for all tastes. The New Glasgow Riverfront Music Jubilee showcases local and regional talent and foodies will definitely want to check out the Louisbourg Crab Festival held in June.
